The British Small Business Awards have announced the 2016 shortlist for Micro Business of the Year, and Portsmouth based skincare start-up Southsea Bathing Hut has earned a place.
The Micro Business of the Year will be a company of 2-9 people that has demonstrated strong revenue growth and a product or service of a quality that stands above competitors.
Narrowing down a multitude of entrants into a shortlist of just ten businesses was a tough task. Southsea Bathing Hut have earned a spot alongside companies in a variety of sectors, from PR to recruitment, from agriculture to security. They are the only cosmetics business to be shortlisted.
A representative of the British Small Business Awards noted that the shortlisted businesses “demonstrated an approach to their sector that sets them apart from their peers.”
Samantha Worsey, founder and Director of Southsea Bathing Hut says, “This is a real honour for us. The British Small Business Awards is the leading celebration of the UK’s small business sector, so for us to have been shortlisted is very prestigious. It’s a testament to our hard work over our first 18 months of trading. All those 12-hour days and seven day weeks are proving to be worth it.”
Samantha adds, “Without our loyal customers’ passion for what we do, we wouldn’t have come this far. At the awards, we’ll proudly fly the flag not just for natural skincare, but for business in Portsmouth.”
Following a recent move of their artisan manufacturing operation into Highland Road’s Strong Island Co, this nomination provides further momentum to Southsea Bathing Hut’s growth.
In 2015, its first year of trading, the business was named one of the UK’s ‘100 unsung heroes’ in nationwide shop-local campaign Small Business Saturday, which saw Samantha invited to London to meet the Chancellor of the Exchequer. This year, the company is also shortlisted for The News Retail and Leisure Awards, in the Best New Retailer and Best Independent Specialist categories.
The British Small Business Awards take place in London’s Grand Connaught Rooms on 20th October.
