Saturday 7th March 2020
11am – 4pm
Learn to make your own cold pressed soap in the beautiful surroundings of the Southsea Bathing Hut natural skincare apothecary.
Using a base of Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, two speciality oils and one essential oil of your own choosing*, your unique recipe will create soap bars to gently cleanse, nourish and protect your skin.
After making, your 12-bar ‘soap loaf’ will stay in its mould overnight and will be sent to you by courier 3-4 weeks later**.
In a fun and informal group workshop (limited to 4 places), we will cover the following:
Brief history and chemistry of soap making
An introduction to soap making equipment and recommended suppliers
Safety aspects of soap making, including working with sodium hydroxide
Using and blending speciality oils and butters
Using and blending essential oils
Preparing a soap mould and alternative mould options
Mixing, curing, cutting and storing soap
Please note this workshop is intended for hobbyists and will provide all the skills needed to make soaps for your friends and family. This workshop will not provide information on how to legally sell your soap creation to the general public.
Please also note that due to essential oils contained within the soap formula, this workshop is unsuitable for pregnant women in their first trimester. We can offer a similar, bespoke private workshops for expectant mums in their first trimester. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
A light lunch and coffee/tea/biscuits will be provided by our friends at The Southsea Deli. Please email any special dietary requirements to email@example.com at least two weeks before the workshop.
*You will be able to make your choice from 3 x butters, 4 x speciality oils and 4 x essential oils provided.
** The dispatch time will be determined by the lovely unique recipe you create and how long your soap takes to sufficiently harden.
When booking this workshop, please note that we can only provide a full refund (less a 10% admin fee) for cancellations made more than 14 working days (Tuesday - Saturday) before the start date of the workshop. For any later cancellations there will be no refunds but if the course or workshop is booked to run again at a later date a booking may be transferred subject to availability.
We want to make all our activities at Southsea Bathing Hut accessible to as many people as possible. However, as a rented historic building, our venue does unfortunately have some access limitations.
Our shop space is fully accessible to wheelchair users via a ramp.
However, access to The Lab (where our workshops are held) will require walking approximately 6 metres and stepping up two small level changes.
A stool can be provided for you to sit on, on request. Due to space restrictions in the room and health and safety considerations, only two stools can be provided in the space per workshop. If you require the use of a stool during this workshop, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org immediately after booking your place, so we can make the necessary arrangements for you.
As a small team, we require notice of any special access requirements at least 14 days prior to your workshop date.
Sadly we cannot provide indoor parking for unfoldable wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
Please note there is no toilet for workshop participant use at Southsea Bathing Hut. However, there are well maintained public toilets a 1 minute walk from the shop.
